What a year it has been in 2011 for those of us embracing social networking for business. The competition among major social media business channel’s in 2011, has been unprecedented. Most of the impetus for this activity is due to the new player in the social media market, being Google+. • Twitter – the underdog , but evolving quickly and radically
  • Google+ – the rookie with a major search engine backing

Fig 1: Online Engagement Model

The biggest driver in social media for business is its ability to become an online referral marketing tool which enables you to engage with your customers.  The key for major social media for business channels is, who is going to be the largest referral marketing engine. All in all, 2011 has been an interesting year for social media. Companies and individuals have been kept on their toes by major social media platforms with a constant flurry of changes. 2012 promises to be an interesting battle between Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+ or will it be a new player like Tumblr dominating the market? But ultimately it will be us- the consumers who will be the likely winners.

2011 has also been a year for measuring and monitoring social media activities across many platforms and they will be become key software to measuring results of key performance indicators of social media campaigns.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our readers a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
