The changes that are being to social media sites are a regular occurrence that we tend to not have the time to keep with all of the changes.

However, when the social media site of the No 1 search engine in the world makes changes, we sit up and take notice. I have compiled a list of the major changes that Google+ has made.

  1. Profile Page

The profile page can now be a single large prominent one as opposed to a collection of pictures. However you do still have the option of have 5 images instead of one large banner.  The profile photo has also increased in size and featured in right hand corner of the page together with your corporate web address.  This change leaves the door wide open for companies to create innovative campaign ideas with visuals.
  2. Menu LinksThe menu links have been moved to a side panel bar on the left hand side for ease of navigation. You no longer have to keep scrolling to the top to access the menu items.
  3. Promoting your Page

Google + has stepped up the promotional aspect of profile pages with “people you may know” and “You Might Like” sections. These allow you to easily add more followers and also if you increase your followers your page will be featured in the you might like section.

  4. Trends and HangoutsSocial Media is all about posting information that is relevant, timely and ON TREND. The new Google+ change also includes a list of trending keywords making it easy for you to gain greater engagement levels with your customers.  Hang outs have also changed to highlight YouTube live video chats which you can join or conduct one of your own.
This is a great opportunity for businesses to present the personal face of the company and meet the customers one-to-one.

  5. Switching between Accounts

If you are an admin managing multiple accounts, switching between them has become easier. You can switch from the menu panel or by clicking your profile image at the top. This helps to avoid the confusion of handling your personal account and pages.

  6. Other Improvements
    – Improved Photo and Video display
    – Easy view of engagement of individual posts

These are the compilation of the changes made to Google+ recently.  These changes come at a time when Facebook Timeline for brand pages is increasing engagement levels and newcomer Pinterest is taking the social media world by storm.
